Medium: Oil on Canvas

I am proud of this one but what a subject! Julius was British and Commonwealth heavyweight champion. He is depicted with the belt that he won outright for three consecutive title wins. He has shared a ring with four world champions. The painting was the centre-piece for my 2012 exhibition “Noble Art”.

An update: June 2022. Julius is currently trending online and appearing in all the papers following an incident whilst working as a security guard at Boxpark Wembley. Great right hand, Julius!

Eventually it will be displayed in the grounds of Northampton Hospital to welcome visitors and to highlight the need for organ donation. Beatrice was constantly moving around the sculpture, working on one side, then the next, all the while checking on how any changes affected the whole. After a while she reached up and rubbed a little clay into the face of one of the figures, she paused for a brief moment and it looked like she was bringing life to the piece with her touch. A perfect moment that I have chosen to depict.
